I Love Guinea Pigs: My Story
By: Karishma Chera Blogger at VanArts Radio

I am a happy and proud Guinea Pig owner. I still remember the first day I picked her up at the pet store. I instantly felt a connection with her... plus she was on sale! so I purchased her with apet reward warranty. A tall Ginger man who was an employee of the pet storelooked at me with a big smile and said "Congrats you will love her!"

It was a cold day in mid January. I didn't have a car so they packed her in a cardboard box so I could walk back home with her. I held her close to me because I wanted to keep her warm and make sure she didn't catch a cold.

I was stressed out. My family had no idea there was a furry pet with 2 adorable black eyes and a tiny pink nose joining them! When i got home I hid her in my closet. She seemed scared.

At that moment I remembered feeling very guilty. I realized how impulsive it was for me to walk
into a pet store and buy a new pet just because I felt connected to it and it was 30% off
( I didn't have a lot of money at the time. )  I felt like an idiot, I had nothing for this animal.
No cage, no food, no water bottle.

I admitted to myself that I was being a foolish teenager... Which is why i needed a soft and
sweet friend like her in the first place.

Love at first sight!

I put her back in the Cardboard box and took her downstairs in my Dad's office.  I cut up some
apple and tried to feed her, she spat it out. I picked her up and held her to my chest but she
unzipped my hoodie down with her teeth.  I  touched her belly and she bit me. Then she walked
around  while making these loud "wheeking" sounds and squatted while sticking
her face between her back legs  only to  eat her own poop! I tried to get it out of her mouth,
but she nudged me with her head and walked away. I later read online that all Guinea Pigs do
this! I must admit, I was laughing hysterically! Not only did I buy the most adorable little
creature but the most hilarious and entertaining personalty. Or should i say "pigality."
I loved her, she was perfect. She was my bestie! But, I had to tell my family.

The Big Reveal

I anxiously walked up to my Dad and told him what I had done. He freaked out in the beginning
He said "Are Guinea Pigs those Rat looking things?"  I didn't know what to say. So i picked her
up, and bought her to my Dad. And well...he loved her just as much as i did! We went to the
the store the very next day and bought  all the things piggy  needed. She is currently enjoying
her 10-square foot cage!
